Sorry for being away for so long, lots to do and lots to see. I would like to thank all those who helped out with the U/14’s whilst I attended the V8 Supercars. Yes, it was fun, if you call standing at trackside from 7:30am till 5:00 pm for three days monitoring races and waving flags to assist the drivers. And surprisingly, being a CAMS Marshall is the same as being involved with the Cobras, it’s all voluntary. Anyway back to football matters.

Match Report Round 12 under 10’s

Another trip to Redlands produced our slowest start to a game all season. For the first three quarters we did not play as a team and many times we had one or two players who had to compete against four Redlands players because their team mates would not help them out. However after three quarter time we switched on and played the type of football we are capable of, with every player contributing to a great last quarter of football. If we are to compete against good sides we need to work as a team which means EVERY player needs to contribute to the team. Well done to our captain Jayden Balm who went in hard for the ball and competed well all day and many thanks to Kim Nicholls who handled the goal umpiring.

Match Report under 10’s round 11

The team traveled to Redlands to play against one of the best sides we have played against and once again we showed what a great team we have become during the season. The boys were first to the ball and showed good team work and plenty of encouragement throughout the game. Every player should be proud of the way they played in their first game for three weeks. Congratulations to our Captain Jayden Bombardier who once again attacked every contest hard and he continued to show tremendous improvement in his first season of AFL football. Thank you to all of the parents for their support during the game and to Darren Bombardier, Nathan Bennett and Jordan Miller who shared the goal umpiring duties.

NATHAN BENNETT 50 GAMES

Nathan Bennett 50 Games

Nathan Bennett started playing at the Cobras in 2005 after coming through the club’s Auskick program. Many times during his first season Nathan would take his jumper off at half time, head for the play ground and not return until the lollipops were being handed out after the game. In his second season Nathan enjoyed playing footy with his friends and he really made an effort to improve his skills, so much so that he was rewarded with the “most Improved” award at the end of the season. This year Nathan has continued to enjoy his footy and he regularly plays two games each week as well as running water and training with the under 11’s. During this season Nathan has also played a half time Auskick game at the Gabba and also at Carrara during the Kangaroo V Adelaide game. Nathan is a Brisbane Lions supporter whose favourite player is Michael Rischitelli and he would like to play in the AFL for West Coast, Brisbane or the Kangaroos. Keep enjoying your footy Nathan and we hope to see you playing for the Cobras for many years to come.

Cobra junior named in All Australian team.

Being left without a junior team to play for in 2007 following the demise of the Under 17’s Youth Girls competition hasn’t stopped Jade Pregelj from adding to her impresssive list of achievements. Having played over 100 games of junior football, mainly against the boys, Jade now plays each week with the Logan Womens team and her consistent performances paved the way for her inclusion in the Queensland representative team that played in the Women’s AFL National Carnival held in Canberra last week. 100 games for Tim

Congratulations to Tim Dudkowski on reaching the 100 club games milestone this week-end.

Tim first played for the Cobras in 2002 as an Under 10 and quickly developed a reputation for his competitive spirit and courageous play. Now in his sixth season at the club Tim puts 100% effort into every game and always provides a contest with both his tackling and attack on the footy proving to be a constant source of inspiration for his teammates and to those watching.

Tim’s team work ethic and ‘footy smarts’ played a large part in his Under 14’s team premiership success in 2006. Now in his first season in Under 16’s Tim is still putting his body on the line and makes opponents earn every possession.

Well done on reaching 100 games in the Cobra colours Tim.
