V’s Wynnum 18-8-07
Our last game of the season and despite missing six of our regular players the boys continued to play a great style of team football. It was pleasing to see every player step up to cover for the players who were unavailable. Every player in the team has improved in all areas of the games and they all should be proud of their efforts throughout the season. For the second time this season we had co-captains in James Elves and Bailey Nichols, who both played fantastic games. James has developed into a very good player in his first season of AFL and Bailey has proven to be a valuable member of the team, who regularly takes on bigger opponents but is rarely beaten. Special thanks to under 8’s Jordan Miller and Nathan Bennett who played for us on Saturday and a big thanks to Glen Miller who handled the goal umpiring and all of the parents who made the effort to get the boys to the game on Saturday.
V’s Redlands Grey 11-8-07
Our last home game of the year and once again the boys competed hard all day against a well balanced Redlands side. After a patchy first three quarters the boys really turned it on in the last quarter to produce our best period of football for the season. The boys in the centre continually won the ball and pumped it in to the forward line, where the forwards shared the ball unselfishly which led to easy goals for the team. On the few occasions the ball went into the Redlands forward line, our backline held firm and cleared the ball out quickly. Well done boys, lets finish the season on a positive note and keep up the good work this week against Wynnum. Congratulations to our captain Steven Phillips who played a superb game and he has taken his game to another level this season. Thank you to Wade Thomas, who handled the time keeping, Cathy Cameron, who looked after the first aid and Nathan Bennett who did an excellent job of the goal umpiring.
V Redlands White 28-7-07 The boys bounced back from a disappointing game last week to display probably our best team performance of the season. Every player in the team got involved and attacked the football, so we were first to the ball and able to use our hand balling and kicking to pass to a team mate in a better position. There was also a marked improvement in our defensive skills which meant we tackled, chased and picked up an opposition player when we did not have the ball. Well done boys and keep up the good work over the final two games of the season. Congratulations to our Captain Jesse Longden who has really improved his skills over the season and he is becoming a valuable member of the team, well done Jesse and keep working hard at training. Thank you to Tania Bennett who had a busy day doing First Aid and Todd Bone who looked after the goal umpiring.
Another trip to Redlands produced our slowest start to a game all season. For the first three quarters we did not play as a team and many times we had one or two players who had to compete against four Redlands players because their team mates would not help them out. However after three quarter time we switched on and played the type of football we are capable of, with every player contributing to a great last quarter of football. If we are to compete against good sides we need to work as a team which means EVERY player needs to contribute to the team. Well done to our captain Jayden Balm who went in hard for the ball and competed well all day and many thanks to Kim Nicholls who handled the goal umpiring.
The team traveled to Redlands to play against one of the best sides we have played against and once again we showed what a great team we have become during the season. The boys were first to the ball and showed good team work and plenty of encouragement throughout the game. Every player should be proud of the way they played in their first game for three weeks. Congratulations to our Captain Jayden Bombardier who once again attacked every contest hard and he continued to show tremendous improvement in his first season of AFL football. Thank you to all of the parents for their support during the game and to Darren Bombardier, Nathan Bennett and Jordan Miller who shared the goal umpiring duties.
For the first time this season we played against a side we had previously played and it showed how much we have improved over the course of the season. All day we were first to the ball and the boys used the ball well which contributed too many goal scoring opportunities. Once again the team chased and tackled hard and applied plenty of pressure to the opposition. Keep up the good work boys. Well done to our captain Travis Miller who has become more involved this season and he played a fine game. Thank you to Glen Miller for doing the first aid, Jayne Miller for time keeping and Nathan Bennett who handled the goal umpiring.
The boys again put together a fine display of team football against a very evenly matched Alexandra Hills team. It is pleasing to see how much all of our first year players are improving each week and they are stepping up and helping out all of the experienced players so we are becoming a very strong side in all positions on the field. For the first time this season we had Co-Captains in Mitchell and Daniel Cameron who were celebrating their fiftieth games at the Cobras. Both boys have become very good players during the season and on Saturday they produced fine Captains games. Congratulations boys and keep working on your skills. Thank you to Tania Bennett for doing the time keeping, Our team of goal umpire’s Rhys, Kim and Todd and to Cathy Cameron who had a very busy day with the first aid duties this week.
Logan Cobras V’s Beenleigh
Our first taste of winter on a cold windy day at Beenleigh and the boys continued to show rapid improvement in all areas of the game. Every player should feel proud of the way they have continued to improve their skills and they are also more willing to support each other and do the little things which make good teams better. Congratulations to our Captain Jayden Balm who played his best game for the season, thank you to Nathan Bennett, Todd Bone and Blake Rhodes who shared the goal umpiring duties and a big thanks to all of the parents for their support during the game.
The game got off to a confusing start when Wynnum arrived with only six players. So after a bit of shuffling players around we played a 9 a side game. This gave all the boys plenty of space to move in and also plenty of opportunity to get their hands on the ball. The boys showed a willingness to share the ball around with some sharp hand and foot passing and it was great to hear the boys talking and supporting each other through out the game. Thank you to all the boys who played a quarter for Wynnum, with out you the game would have been cancelled.
Congratulations to our captain Jason Bennett who played his 100th game for the Cobras. And a big thank you to Leisa Rhodes who looked after the goal umpiring, Cathy Cameron who handled the first aid duties and Blake Rhodes who took care of the team line up for each quarter. A special mention to all of the team who sang a great version of the club song after the game. Well done boys and keep up the good work.
Once again we traveled to Redlands for another hard fought game against a very good side. Although we had a few players missing and others who were suffering the effects of a virus, we never gave up all day and we made the Redlands side work hard for every kick. The boys showed great skill at times and it was good to see the boys backing each other up and running to support their team mates. Well done boys and keep up the improved effort at training. Congratulations to our captain Adam Martinovic who played his best game of the season and led by example. And a big thanks to Darren Bombardier who again looked after the goal umpiring.
